Chevalet-Beaudoin (2010)

The Chevalet-Beaudoin collection of gilding tools was acquired around 1925 by the Government of Quebec, which purchased it from a French master bookbinder, Mr. Lucien Chevalet (1861-1926). This acquisition was made through Mr. Louis-Philippe Beaudoin (1900-1967), founding director of the Institut des arts graphiques, which is now Ahuntsic College. Since 1970, the college has been the custodian of the collection. It comprises more 3,000 gilding tools and rollers, making it one of the most important collections of gilding tools in Canada, and probably in North America.    Full Title:  Fers à dorer pour la dorure à la main : palettes, roulettes, fleurons Author: P. Bearel Author mention: Maison fondee en 1889, 62, Rue Mazarine, Paris (VI) Printer:  Imprimerie Chaix Year: 1931 Original scan:  https://bibliotheques-specialisees.paris.fr From period sources, we can find out that this gentleman s name was Paul Bearel and established his business in 1889, and his sucessor was called Morand. We have one catalogue issued in 1910 with the same mention.  In 1889 we find him in Paris at 11 Place Dauphine, and find his full name to be Paul-Emile Bearel, and other tool-cutters in Paris are Jules Dupezan (Rue Dauphine 18) and Ernest Jules Munzinger (Rue Saint Sebastien 36. The Maison Alivon homepage asserts that after 1947,  Antoine Alivon continues the family business and buys back the workshop of the engraver Monsieur Morand, successor to Maison Longien and Bérael (sic). So from that we can assume that Both Longien and Bea...

Alivon & Malouin (1910)

Full Title:  Fers à dorer pour la dorure à la main : palettes, roulettes, fleurons Author: Alivon & Malouin Author mention: Paris 36, rue Lacépède, Paris Printer:  Imprimerie Chaix Year: cca 1910 Original scan:  https://bibliotheques-specialisees.paris.fr The proper way to cite tools from this catalogue would be Author/ Year/Tool number, because the same model might have a different number assinged in another issuing of the catalogue, since the publisher clearly states that this present catalogue renders the previous ones useless.  Therefore this tool, which I personally redrew using the present catalogue as inspiration, with minimal changes, would be Alivon.1910.2974:
